Spanish Power of Attorney Legalisation (Poder Notarial)

Spanish notarial powers of attorney apostilled via the Colegio Notarial and legalised for UAE banks, courts and authorities.

A Spanish Poder Notarial is apostilled by the Colegio Notarial covering the notary who signed it, not by a central ministry. Powers of attorney reaching the UAE usually concern property, company representation or court matters, and the receiving body will check that the powers granted are specific enough for the act being performed — a general power is often refused where a special one was needed. Once the apostilled document reaches us, the UAE side — attestation, any required translation and delivery — closes in 3-4 working days.

Required Documents

Documents required

  • 01 Original notarised Poder Notarial
  • 02 Identification of the grantor and the attorney
  • 03 Passport copy of the document holder
  • 04 Emirates ID copy where the document is for UAE use
Important Notes

Special requirements

Please note
  • § Spain has no single apostille office. Judicial and criminal-record documents go through the Ministerio de Justicia, notarial instruments through the regional Colegio Notarial, and administrative or academic documents through the relevant government delegation or education authority. A document submitted to the wrong body is returned unprocessed.
  • § The apostille follows the notary, not the signatory. A power signed before a notary in one region is apostilled by that region's Colegio Notarial regardless of where the grantor lives.

Frequently asked questions

The UAE side — attestation, any required legal translation and delivery — closes in 3-4 working days from the moment the apostilled document is with us. If the Spanish apostille still needs to be obtained, that step runs on the Spanish authority's timetable and is quoted separately. Send a scan and we will tell you which applies before you commit to anything.

The Colegio Notarial for the region where the signing notary is registered — not a central ministry. This is where Spanish POA files most often go wrong.

UAE receiving bodies frequently refuse a general power where a special one naming the act was needed. Tell us what the attorney has to do in the UAE and we will flag it before the document is drafted in Spain.

Usually yes, by a UAE-licensed legal translator, and always after the apostille — a translation made beforehand will not carry the apostille stamp and has to be redone at full cost.
