Frequently Asked Questions

If the birth was registered with NZ BDM (for example, a New Zealand citizen born overseas), the BDM certificate can be apostilled by the DIA. The apostille confirms the NZ government has issued the document.
If you already have a current BDM certificate, the apostille and MOFA attestation takes approximately 12 to 16 working days. If a new certificate needs to be ordered from BDM, add 5 to 10 working days for BDM processing.
